…and the Trafalgar square poll tax protests?
The later seemingly turned ugly at the hands of overzealous police. The same Police who, after previous coal mining protests, said: ‘We take our orders from Downing Street.’ In other words, the unjust Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.
Not satisfied with destroying the British economy (see article: ‘How Thatcher’s government destroyed the British economy!’), she, as the leader of the Conservative party, decided to abolish the Labour controlled GLC and replace the rates system with the unjust Poll Tax.
The singular most question, and one that nobody had the common sense to ask at the time is this: ‘If the Conservative party and not the Labour party controlled the GLC, would the Prime Minister have dissolved the GLC?’ Probably not.
To further underline just how unjust the Poll tax was, thereby validating the Poll tax demonstration in Trafalgar square, after Mrs Thatcher resigned the Poll tax was replaced with the original Labour rates system, only under a different name – Council tax, as it is today.
That, however, resulted in a new set of offices needing to be built as a replacement for: The Original GLC building, which was sold off at a pittance…
…and replaced by City Hall:
at a cost of £43 million to the tax payer, being you or your parents if you and or they paid employment tax at the time.
Before I get to the answer as to the difference between the two, it is necessary to point out the following: Everyone in the world, including the British Government and MP’s, excluding China, were outraged by the scenes of a convoy of tanks bearing down on a singular protester. When it came to the Poll tax demonstrations, however, the response of the British Government and the majority of MP’s, along with the media, was no different to that of the Chinese Government.
From that, it’s quite easy to see what the difference is:
The British Government did all but send in a convoy of tanks to disperse and challenge protesters.
